Biography

Georgios Tzimagiorgis was born in Elassona, Greece. He obtained his B. Sc. in Biology, from the Department of Biology School of Sciences (1985) and his Medical Doctor Degree from Medical School (2012), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece. His PhD in Molecular Biology was obtained from the Department of Biology (1992), School of Sciences, University of Crete, Greece. He then worked initially as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (1992-1996), and then as a Senior Research Scientist at Max-Planck Institute for Neurobiology (1996-1997), Martinsried, Department of Neurochemistry, F. R. of Germany. Medical Doctor Degree, Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. After returning to Greece to fulfil his military service, he joined the Laboratory of Biological Chemistry and worked as a senior research fellow scientist (1998-2001). Dr. Georgios Tzimagiorgis is currently an Associate Professor of Biological Chemistry (2014), in Laboratory of the Biological Chemistry, Medical Department, School of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

He has a significant experience in the field of molecular biology with a particular interest in gene expression and regulation, genetic/epigenetic analysis, microarray based technology SNP and gene expression analysis). The last 10 years his research interests are focused in elucidating the genetic and epigenetics changes underlying lung carcinogenesis and in the development and characterization of new genetic/epigenetic markers for early cancer diagnosis.
