Biography

Dr Hatzivassiliou was born in Thessaloniki, she is married with two kids. She has graduated from the Biology Department of School of Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the grade Excellent 9/10. She obtained a Master’s degree in Biology from University of Geneva, Switzerland, and a Ph.D. degree from Boston University Medical School, Biochemistry dept. She trained as postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Infectious Disease Dept, where she first started working with herpesviruses and more specifically with molecular mechanisms of EBV-mediated oncogenesis.  In January 1999 she succeeded in obtaining a three year career development award and technology transfer to Greece and joined the Biology Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In November 2009 she was elected lecturer at the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she was appointed in January 2012. In April 2014 she was promoted to assistant professor. She continued her research on molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis and she characterized protein interactions which mediate the activation of nuclear factor kappa B. Some of these proteins maybe targets for novel therapeutic approaches.
