Biography

Dr. Efstratios K. Kosmidis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1975. He graduated from the Department of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1998 and received his Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from the Pierre et Marie University, France in 2002. He was Postdoctoral Fellow and later on Research Associate in the Yale Medical School, New Haven, USA from 2002 to 2006. He conducted research in the field of optical neural recordings working with Professor Lawrence B. Cohen. During the summer months the laboratory was transferred and continued research activities to the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, USA. He then worked as a Research Associate in the Laboratory of Animal Physiology in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
In 2011, he was appointed lecturer and in 2014 assistant professor (non-tenure) in Physiology in the Department of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He teaches Physiology with an emphasis in Neurophysiology to undergraduate and graduate students at the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in relevant seminars / workshops.

Dr. Kosmidis has written a book in computational neuroscience (French) and published 23 papers in international journals with more than 350 references. He was an invited speaker in more than 60 Greek and international congresses and seminars. He has served as grant referee for the National Science Foundation in the United States of America and is an active reviewer for several international journals in physiology and computational biology. In 2015, he chaired the FENS-Featured Regional Meeting in Neurosciences in Thessaloniki. His research interests include systems biology, computational neuroscience, neurophysiology and optical recordings.
